Provider Connection
MT001: How To Correctly Bill Using This Code
Over the last couple of years MT001 has been expanded to include a number of common services requested by workers’ compensation carriers. MT001 is to be used for the following services:
- Face to face conferences with payer representative(s) to update the status of a patient upon request of the payer.
For example, a claim examiner requests the Medical Case Manager attend an appointment with the injured worker for an update on status and treatment plan.
- A report associated with non-physician conferences required by the payer.
For example, a conference between a non-physician provider (physical therapist, speech therapist) and a physician that would generate a written report and is requested by the payer.
- Completion of a job analysis requested by the payer:
For example, a Claims Examiner or vocational rehabilitation provider requests review and approval/disapproval for job analysis.
- Written questions that require a written response from the provider, excluding the Medical Status Form:
For example, a Claims Examiner submits a letter or a request with additional questions that are not normally covered in an office visit or where clarification is needed.
**Using CPT code 99080 for any of the above listed services will result in a denial of payment.
