Safety can feel like a big and overwhelming goal, especially when you have a lot on your plate and several hats on your head. If you aren’t sure where to start, a risk assessment can help you identify the most pressing safety needs. A safety assessment involves mental and physical walk-throughs of the dangers posed at your business. It’s fast, free and effective. Ask yourself:
- What are we going to do?
- How could we get hurt or damage equipment?
- How could we prevent those injuries or damage?
Sure these are simple questions, but when answered thoughtfully they can generate real insight and ideas for prevention. They’re best answered with multiple perspectives, so involve other employees in the conversation. Even if you can’t address every risk immediately, you’ll have a place to begin ordering your next steps and delegating responsibilities.
