Be Sure Footed

slip1Icy walkways, winter boots left in the middle of the room and wet floors, these are all real life scenarios that can cause simple slips, trips or falls. With that in mind here are a few tips to keep you slip, trip and fall free no matter the season.

Wear appropriate footwear for the conditions: Look outside and watch the weather report to help determine the conditions each day. It can be 40 degrees one minute and 4 below the next, making for icy walking (and driving) conditions.

Watch for ice in parking structure and entrances. The top of parking structures are exposed to the weather and can become snow packed and icy. Every floor has exposure to weather entering from the sides and can become snow packed and/or icy as well.

Be an attentive walker: Avoid distractions when you are walking; like using your cell phone or looking your keys in a purse or backpack.

Avoid taking shortcuts: Remember to always use walkways and designated cleared pathways when you are out and about. It might seem like a good idea to take a shorter route until you land in the emergency room with a broken foot.

Don’t be in a hurry: This might sound like a no brainer, but many of us rush around and move too fast which causes unnecessary injuries.
